In addition to Fitness and Training services, we hold many special events throughout the year. These events offer a way for our members to meet and socialize with each other outside of regular gym interaction, and foster a sense of community among our City Fitness family as a whole.

City Fitness Holiday Toy Drive
Through December 15, 2008 · Drop off at City Fitness
We are collecting toys for Kids Konnection (located in Anacostia). Gifts will be distributed to more than 2,000 children in DC public housing. The organizers go above and beyond in researching each family, to learn more about them and to choose appropriate gifts for the kids. Suggested items include: basketballs and soccer balls, toy cars, handheld electronic games, board games, art and nail kits, watches, playhouse items, African-American dolls and Barbie dolls. Kids Konnection also has an “Adopt-a-Teen” program. Teens are often forgotten over the holidays because their families are struggling to provide basic necessities and gifts for younger siblings. Buy something for a teen or donate money if you prefer.

5th Annual Fitness Fiesta!
May 2008
This month-long celebration focuses on the fun of fitness. Events included special introductory classes, open house week at the gym, and the Fitness Fiesta Party and Cook-off. Our raffle raised money for H.O.M.E. (Home of Miracles and Embraces) (first prize was a one-year full-use City Fitness membership!)!
Race for Hope 5K Run/Walk
Sunday, May 4, 2007 City Fitness Gym member Steve Higgins passed away last summer from brain cancer. For several years, Team FCB has walked/run together in support, and now in memory, of Steve. Steve’s wife Tara wanted to continue the tradition by keeping the team going.

Help the Homeless Walkathon
Saturday, November 17, 2007
Once again, our City Fitness family came through and we raised over $3,000 for those in need. Since 1997 we have been participating in this event. Fannie Mae paid $50 for every person who signed up and walked the 5K route. Thanks to all who participated!
Pay It Forward to Support H.O.M.E
Saturday, October 27, 2007
Thanks for coming out to support H.O.M.E., which provides direct support and assistance to children infected with HIV and facing other challenging illnesses. We raised over $1,000! The fundraising event featured Robert Mendenhall and Partylite candles.
Pictured top left is our 20/10 Celebration. Fall 2003 marked the 20th Anniversary of Fit Physique and the 10th Anniversary of City Fitness Gym. We had several events and contests at our gym and wrapped everything up with a great party attended by current and former staff, instructors, members, corporate site directors and friends.
Every year we partner with Fannie Mae for the Help The Homeless Walk-a-Thon. Fannie Mae makes a donation for every person we get to walk. In 2003, with the help of our members and their friends and family, we had 270 people walk behind the City Fitness banner and raised $13,500 for the cause.
In 2003 we began the tradition of a Walk For Jay. Jay Santarlasci was a former employee of City Fitness and a teacher at the Field School. This is a walk in his memory that raises funds for the Jay Santarlasci Memorial Scholarship at the Field School. In 2003 our walk brought in $1,000 for the scholarship fund.
In 2004 we celebrated our first ever Fitness Fiesta. This is a month-long celebration commemorating May as National Health and Fitness month. During the Fiesta we offer special intro classes that are free to both members and guests. Other special events include workshops on topics such as acupuncture, women’s health, nutrition for athletes, and a family fun hike. We ended the month with an International Party for our members where we raffled off numerous prizes, including a free membership for one year. All proceeds of this raffle went to the Uganda Children’s Charity Foundation. The response to this was phenomenal and we raised $2,795 thanks to the generosity of our members.
The Holiday season always seems to be a time where it is particularity hard to get to the gym. We understand this. So to give our members extra motivation we offer exciting specialty classes during those difficult times. The day after Thanksgiving is our traditional Burn the Bird day. We start with an intense, challenging aerobics class to banish any guilt from your body. The compliment class is “Yoga for Giving Thanks,” a time for relaxation and reflection and an opportunity for participants to find their center in what can be a mentally trying time.
To bring an end to one year and a beginning to another, we hold a New Rear’s Day celebration annually on New Year’s Eve. The specialty class on this day is an Inner Peace/Outer Strength combination class. The class begins with step aerobics and closes with a yoga session.
